Fourteen lecture of geoscience lecture hall: Remote sensing theory and praxis of water environment for large lakes

In order to broaden thevision of academic field and stimulate the enthusiasm of innovation, at 10a.m on May 18, 2018, researcherHongtaoDuan(Nanjing Institute of Geography and Limnology, Chinese Academy of Sciences) was invited by professor Yingbao Yang(vice president of the school of Earth Science and engineering), to give an academic report of ‘Remote sensing theory and praxisof water environment for large lakes’. Researcher Duan has worked on the water color remote sensing for a long time and has hosted National Water Special Project, National Natural Science Foundation of ChinaandExcellent Youth Foundation of Jiangsu Scientific Committee. As the head of the sub project or the backbone of the project, he has undertaken the National 863 plan, the National Support Plan, the International Basic Work Project, and so on.More than 70 SCI papers were published in the top journals, including 30 papers in zone II.

In the report, starting with water color remote sensing, researcherDuan introduced the retrieval process of the substances in the water body such as chlorophyll, phycocyanin and suspended sediment. At the same time, he showed distribution and variation ofoptical characteristics of blue algae, the concentration analysis of the suspended sediment in the lake water, and the estimation of the carbon cycle of the lake.

In question and answer link, researcherDuan answered and discussed relative questions with students and other professors.The research on the monitoring of phycocyanin in different remote sensing satellites, the accuracy of the PCI algorithm and the remote sensing monitoring of the blue algae in Taihu lake had been deeply discussed. Through this lecture, teachers and students have a more comprehensive and profound understanding of water color remote sensing and have opened up the thoughts for future research.
